which company developed the first laser printer

Why was the laser printer invented?

The first laser printer was introduced by Gary Starkweather, a product development engineer at Xerox. He came up with the idea of employing a laser beam to “draw” a picture of what was to be duplicated directly onto the copier drum in 1969.
